Is rebar overkill and pre compacting depth

I’m preparing a sub base for a garden cabin 24m sq I’m building which will be approx 75-100mm sub base of scalpings with 100mm concrete.

I'm just curious as to the approach when compacting the scalpings. Do I fill to roughly 75mm-100mm depth, compact, check depth, top up if it needs it and compact again to make sure I'm left with approximately 100mm left to the top of shuttering for concrete? This makes sense to me but I want to get it right.

Also, I know it wouldn't hurt but is it overkill to use rebar or steel mesh in the concrete bearing in mind the area size and depth? I don't want to pay for it if it's not really necessary.
The cabin will be made from timber. 4x2 (C16) for the walls and joists will be 6/8x2 (C24),
Thanks!

It depends on quite a few things.... What material are you using for the cabin... Timber... Block... Brick.... Stone....
What sort of weight is going to be on the concrete slab...
24m2 isn't a huge area... So if its light weight materials you are using... If say rebar is well over the top
The type 1/scalpings is correct... I'd recommend using string line and recy stick at 100mm for measuring depth

On a area that size and the weight i recommend you compact the stone in 50 mm layes leaving a minimum concrete depth and make it deeper around the edges say 200mm as this carries the most stress and make sure sheltering is level and tamp and screed

Yes compaction of 100mm of stone is spot on , depend on weight going on concrete a layer of mesh would not harm , does not have to be rebar , just a simple sheet of mesh what you can buy from any decent builders merchants.

Rather than rebar I’d be using either concrete with fibre or simple steel mesh.

Compaction technique is good but I use lasers rather than string line.
