Raising ceiling height in bedroom

Hi all

I’m in a Victorian terrace, the ceiling in the spare bedroom is around 5/6cm higher than the master bedroom (they’re next to each other) so I want to raise it in the main. Is it as simple as taking down the old ceiling and replacing higher, anything else I need to consider? Is this a builder or plasterer type of job?

Thanks all

You may find that the lower ceiling has been counter battoned and boarded for any number of reasons. I would guess that it would be easier to lower the ceiling in the room where it is higher!

Hi the only way to find out is to cut a section of the master bedroom ceiling out to see why it is lower maybe it as been over boarded or lowered some how previously if that's the case you should be able to take down and reboard to the wooden beams to make same height as the spare room.

It depends on weather the ceiling has been framed out and overboard over the original, as the ceiling joists will dictate the height, hope this helps

If you go into your loft space you should be able to see why it is lower.if not lowering the other ceiling would be a lot easier than pulling down the lower one.
