A cupboard upstairs that adjoins the bathroom is a good place to install the unvented cylinder. The main provisions that need to be considered when installing the cylinder is getting the discharge to a suitable external wall and the distance to the main hot water outlets. This is because you don’t want to waste too much time waiting for hot water to come through, this is called a dead leg.

The gap between the cylinder and wall can be as small as a centimetre providing all
the connections are at the front of the cupboard. You can get thinner cylinders that are 475mm wide which may better suit if you are struggling for space.

You just need to make sure you also have room for the expansion vessel and that the multi valve , tundish and any motorised valves are accessible for visual checks and maintenance
