Plastering

Bedroom skim 3 walls plus ceiling

我最近有一个完整的卧室脱脂3墙和ceiling. When I was painting the ceiling i noticed the plaster had cracked i thought the plaster had pulled the artex off the plaster board but after about an hour a massive chunk had fallen and it's just the plaster. I've rung the tradesman and hes promised to come back to fix it. Do i ask him to pull the rest of the ceiling plaster off and ask him to start it again because I'm worried other parts of the ceiling might come down. I know he used blue grit on one of the walls but not sure about the ceiling or other walls.

the best option over artex is to plasterboard as the artex reacts to the glue and does not go off which the work is not guaranteed this can lead to cracks or falling off very shortly afterwards. We always give two options even though the glue option is cheaper it may not last or plaster boarding. I would ask the plasterer when coming to fix it whether it would need it redoing again as this could happen if glue was used all round.

I completely agree with the top answer, with artex the key will not always work as the suction or the warm room may dry out the PVA so that it will not be sticky to the touch to produce a key. Although more expensive overboarding is the best option.
If PVA dries it produces a seal as you then can paint onto new plastered wall's, so to produce a key it must be still wet and sticky to the touch. As I was told over 45 year's ago as an apprentice READ THE INSTRUCTIONS.

If plastering over artex I always scrape the ceiling first the pva. The a tight coat of bonding plaster. This is left overnight to dry. Then another coat of PVA then skim plaster. If some has already fell off. The chances are more will fall off. I would suggest over boarding the the ceiling and skim. You are guaranteed a new ceiling then. Hope this helps.

Most artex requires Pva glue and a tight coat of bonding to level the artex off.
Re pva bonding to slow down suction and two coat skim for a ready to paint finish.

Well alls I would say is none of the above mention testing the artex first. We all know it could possibly contain asbestos a danger to the tradesman yet alone the customer the owner or occupier. Amazed me trades will scrape it off and also screw into it with out testing first...Pva Bonding Coat Plaster to level it followed by two coats of multi finish. Never ever straight over with skimming 9/10 times it always cracks but end the day you get what you pay for.
