Need help understand radiator valves!

Hi all,

We're replacing a radiator in our living room that has a concrete floor. The pipes are 15mm wide and 1675mm apart. We want to put in a column radiator that is 1508mm wide.

The plumber has said he can extend the tails to make up the space, but he's said we can't use the valves we wanted (
https://www.castironradiators4u.co.uk/uk/059-traditional-trv-angled-satin-brushed-nickel-thermostatic-radiator-valves.html#SID=26). He said that as they have 3/4 inch ground face unions they won't work and we need to get valves with 1/2inch compression on both side of the valve, rad and pipe.

We have no experience with this and don't understand what he means. On the specs it says these valves have a 15mm inlet and a 1/2 inch coupler, so we can't see what the issue is.

Can anyone explain to me what the issue is and what we need to look for when we're looking at valves?

Will this valve work? https://www.castrads.com/valves/niva-antique-brass-angled-trv/

Thanks
Jo

This is what you need:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-Radiator-Valve-Extensions-Universal-Adjustable-1-2-TRV-3-4-Lockshield-/252759049003?hash=item3ad99d032b

Then your original period valves will fit

You can still use the chosen radvalves, all that’s needed is 2 extension bars to make up the spaces between rad & pipework

there is not difference between a valve with a 3/4" union or 1/2" union, both valves do the same job, they have 15mm compression feed and 1/2" connection into radiator, the 3/4" union is just that a 3/4" union nothing else
