Remove wall and put in 'picture frame' steel
Some advice on cost and the process please.
We want to remove the wall between kitchen and dining. It runs the same way as the joists above so it's most probably not load bearing (it does have a wall above it). Rather than an RSJ we want a picture frame steel - size of wall to be removed is 2440mm high and 3100mm long. We say this as the wall is made from the black cement/concrete blocks and doubt the pillars would be strong enough.
Do we need to get a structural engineer to do the calculations and get the building notice before you guys can give advice on rough cost? (We're based in East London)
Any help is appreciated as we need to get this going ASAP but don't really know where to start. Thanks.

Hi there, because the wall continues up through the first floor to the ceiling above it is probably a load bearing wall. This wall is probably carrying partial roof load with a strut from the purlin onto the top of the wall.
You will need a Structural Engineer to do loading calculations & spec the beams and columns for fabrication.
Building Control will be involved to inspect the installation and again when the beams & columns are skimmed.
All the steel work will need to be wrapped in fireline board to give 1 hour fire check or painted with intumescent paint.
A trench will need to be dug for the ground beam & the beam wrapped in min 50mm concrete all around.
The ground floor slab can now be reinstated
